Earlier this week Kate and I gave a large donation to UNICEF for the Pakistan disaster relief operation.. this is a disaster at least on the scale of the asian tsunami and on top of other disasters in the country in recent years we simply do not yet know just how bad it is or will be.. the true scale of this catastrophe still unfolds.. I urge every one of us to do we they can in terms of money or donating foodstuffs to whichever relief organistion near you is working for Pakistan.. we have also donated food and an old tent, several sleeping bags and clothes which we and the children no longer require.. the floods Pakistan are suffering are far greater than the New Orleans disaster, or any disaster I can remember in terms of numbers of people affected in so short a time..

Please give generously what you can whether that be a pound or a dollar.. every penny helps.. medicines, food and money are required urgently. If you can help please do so... our thoughts are with the people of Pakistan at this time..

I don't rate any disaster as more or less than another nation has suffered. I know the US has already pledged 100's of millions in aid even while we still have our own citizens living in "temporary housing". But when there are disasters around the world it's time for people to remember that it is human beings who are affected not some group that is easy to dehumanize because it makes us less concerned about them as we go about our daily lives.
