I know I could just google this, but I'm looking for first hand experiences. What are Poppers, has anyone used them and what does it supposedly do ?

It's a liquid drug thats inhaled, quite popular for many gay men before sex. I tried it once and it made me feel dizzy and ill. Never again.

I did a paper on them in my college chemistry course. The chemical mainly seen is isobutyl nitrite. Originally the were a pharmaceutical called amyl nitrate that was incase in a gauze wrapped glass capsule and used by snapping the capsule and inhaling much like the ammonia caps used to wake fainting victims, hence the name is derived from the popping sound made when the cap is snapped. Amyl was used for caridiac chest pain because if was a fast-acting, short duration vasodilator that make the body's blood vessels open wide, thus giving the failing heart muscle more blood flow. When used for sex, poppers give you a sexual head rush over the entire body, especially the cock and make you feel horny as all get out! The effect last just a couple of minutes. Some bottom men say they also relax the ass making penetration easier to take. Take too much and you get a headache but just about the only harm they can do is if you use them with erectile dysfunction drugs your blood pressure can drop dangerously low, though this is rare due to their short duration effect. I have enjoyed them for years with no harmful effects.

Neonaught is right on the money. You don't see amyl nitrate around or in use these days in favor of the newer variants which, according to some things I've read about poppers, still have that fast-acting, short duration vasodilation affect that no only causes smooth muscle relaxation - your butthole in particular - but can still put one at risk for the effects of having sudden drops in blood pressure which is what happens when vasodilation takes place. You get more blood going to places but at the cost of lowering blood pressure; part of that head rush that makes you feel all warm, maybe a bit "high" - but is really a reduction in BP and not too dissimilar to extreme blood loss. I've read that some companies are working on poppers that provide the relaxation effects without causing potentially dangerous drops in blood pressure.
I know my one experience with amyl nitrate was, wow, scary as fuck. Popped the ampule, took a whiff, felt my BP drop and I almost passed out, felt nauseated and having sex was the last thing I felt like doing. The other guy who suggested we try this did pass out - it was like someone chopping down a tree. One moment he was sitting next to me, the next moment he was on the floor unconscious. I recovered faster and managed to revive him but we both swore we'd never even think about amyl nitrate again.

Poppers are very popular with the older gay barebacking crowd.

Interesting, I have no desire to use this type of drug, I was just curious as it seems to be quite popular in the porn industry.

Thanks to both of you for the information posted. I'm leery of things like this, but will admit to having some curiosity about poppers. I have a very low heart rate, accompanied by a history of syncope, where I've passed out due to the combination of low pulse rate, accompanied by a sudden decrease in blood pressure. Sounds like something I should steer-clear of!
I found it surprising that the effect is so short-lived, but it does explain why you see guys in videos repeatedly going back for another hit after a short while.

You should probably avoid them with your history. When they hit you, as the blood vessels open wider the heart rate has to increase to maintain the same blood pressure. It sounds to me like you have a case of bradycardia that requires treatment.

I can't (and don't really have interest in) doing poppers. I had stents 7 or 8 years ago and was warned that the meds I take cannot be combined with poppers or I could potentially stroke out. So, hard pass from me. Viagra and Cialis work well enough for my needs.
I can say I was with a dude and I started giving him oral. He snorted a popper, moaned and his cock became like a fucking rock. It got super-hard, turned a bit red (from all the blood in it I assume), and it was pretty amazing....they must work, but I have no interest in trying them.

It sounds to me like you have a case of bradycardia that requires treatment. You are correct. In fact, I had a loop recorder implanted just before Christmas to keep an eye on it. I am on a low-dose BP medication that has a tendency to lower heart rate, which is a contributing factor, and we'll see if the data logged by the loop recorder results in my cardiologist recommending a pacemaker when I visit him in April.
Meanwhile, it's fun to joke with my wife about my having gotten an implant before she did -- although I only got one on the left side...

There's no dependence aspect to them although one can be psychologically dependent on anything. Sucking cock for instance!

I had a stent put in a few years back but have never had any popper-related problems but by all means do exactly as your doctor recommends.

If you're looking to bottom and don't want it to hurt... these are not the way.
A slow increasing stimulation and eventual light penetration of the ass relaxes it. Just don't go too hard too fast or too big right away. And after you've lubed outside (step 1, unless you're getting rimmed first) and have just lightly penetrated with a finger -- get a syringe with a nozzle, fill it with 5ml of good lube, and squirt it inside when 3 to 4 inches in.
Lubing outside AND inside is critical. And if you are looking into large objects (ouch, why?), realize that you have to work up to them over time or you will hurt yourself.

I tried it once and my heart raced and pounded so hard I though it was gonna pop out of my chest. Never again. I can taste the poppers on a guy I'm sucking. Anyone else note that?
