Heard about this today; wasn't at all shocked but it still hits a tender nerve, none the less. What kill me is that the Catholic Church is so willing to protect priests' who molest young boys, but same sex marriage is a terrible thing?

I hope that the Canadian parliment can stop the new PM's effort to roll back the gay marriage laws and that they don't pay any attention to Benedict---they should draft a response that respectfully tells the pope that he has the right to express his opinion on this subject, but that he should leave governance of a nation up to its duly elected representatives--thank you very much---

I was raised strict Catholic thus you can see I rebeled  . They start you from a young age trying to instill in your mind that gay love is the product of the davil and is wrong. We have men here taking advantage of a situation and power. They are telling us what is right and what is wrong you are not allowed as a person to voice your own opinion to this.Thank you blue. I am sorry :soapbox: I will get of my box. It just pisses me off they way people are treated for what they believe in and how they choose to love.

im not religious at all. and i dont belive in god. i do support people who do, ,thats there choice. but to me, one persons opinions (ok alot of people,Catholics) dosnt really matter to me. if i end up in hell i will deal with it then. and probally be mad of my belifes. but i dont see that happening. and for the pope to say these things is his opinion. im certanly not going to go run to the closest church and get dunkend in holy water. and quit sucking cock, because the pope told me to. i have a life to live! and i plan to live every minute of it, MY WAY. untill they cremate me, and sprinkle me around in tofino, BC. thats just my 2 cents!
:bipride: <---- eat that pope Benedict

O.M.G. How will this work with the Muslim Bi's or Jewish Bi's or or or or...
If the pope can rule our politics we are in trouble BIG TIME.
Let us pray.

One of the many things about conservative christianity (and islam and judaism) that doesn't make sense to me is how they decide which parts of their doctrine should be forced on everyone through politics and which parts shouldn't.
For example, the pope feels the conservative vision of marriage should be forced on all Canadians, even those who aren't catholic or those who have concluded there are no gods. So shouldn't the eating of meat on Fridays also be banned for everyone? Which elements of religion's doctrine are to be extended to all people and which elements apply only to the (paying) members?
For example, how is it that the pope can greet and welcome muslim and jewish religious leaders, when he believes that they, and all thier followers, are going to rot in hell for eternity for having been born into the wrong religion? Shouldn't he be speaking out against equal rights for people of all faiths as an afront to the catholic god? Is not the practice of islam or hinduism in Canada as great, or greater, a threat to the catholic god as the practice of homosexuality? Shouldn't the pope be lobbying to have all elements of catholicism forced on Canada's citizens, rather than select parts?
Now some would argue that homosexuality warrants special discrimination because all the conservative religions share the trait of homophobia; so that's what makes it different than say eating meat on Fridays. But all conservative religions share the belief that atheism is an abomination, and that women are to be subservient to men and disobedient children are to be beaten. So why doesn't the pope stick his nose in politics to abolish atheism, repeal equal rights for women, and reinstate the right to beat children? (some would argue he does, just much more subtly than with regards to homosexuality)
For some reason homosexuality warrants special inteference from the pope (and conservative protestant leaders too) that other sins of public policy do not. Curious.

Yes religion just like alcohol is a great thing if taken in moderation.
I think its wild that people have gods in this day and age of science and technology.. :2cents:
Thousands of years of praying to our god for rain or a good hunt seems kind of silly now that we have a computer to tell us the weather or were the elk herd is.
Sadder still that i need to pray to my computer.
Boot up Boot up im on my knees please Boot up
